Apologies to any North American readers but this page is wholly concerned with the original game of football, which, strangely enough, is largely played with the feet rather than the hands, unlike the gridiron version. Brazilian club Botafogo won the Copa Libertadores — South America’s equivalent of the Champions League — for the first time in their 123-year history, despite having a player sent off in the first minute of Saturday’s final against Atletico Mineiro.
